Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at VAAGADEVI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING (AN AUTONOMOUS INSTTITUTION) .We started our journey in the year of 2009 . Over the last nine years, we have grown our expertise and competence in the core Mechanical Engineering curriculum and research.
We have a strong undergraduate program in mechanical engineering, including a B. Tech.and , M. Tech. program. At the postgraduate level, we offer only M. Tech. (THERMAL STREAM) Our goal for undergraduate students is to give them a high-quality engineering education that includes hands-on experience. Each of our faculty members is ready and willing to work in their research specialty with capable students on individual projects. Our faculty have major areas of research like thermal and design systems. In all research areas strongly support the growing automotive and manufacturing economy in the state and the region.
The department came in to being in the year 2009. The un-tired efforts of the predecessors had brought in highly integrated and motivated staff strength and an excellent working atmosphere. The department today has comprises of sophisticated laboratory and workshop facilities ensuring on par with standards of global technical education.
The department is presently headed by me since 2013. The department, as on date has 40 dedicated and experienced staff members with 4 doctoral degree holders and the remaining with their PG qualifications. The staff members have more than 10 years of teaching and research experience. Currently, the department is offering B.TECH course in mechanical engineering and post graduations in M.TECH (THERMAL ENGINEERING). The department has well furnished class rooms and an air conditioned seminar hall.

Mechanical Engineering department commenced offering UG programme B.Tech - Mechanical Engineering in the year 2009 with an initial intake of 60 students, which was enhanced to 120 students in the year 2012 and to 180 in the year 2013. In the year 2014, the Institute became autonomous and current intake of the department is 180. The department is also offering one PG programme M.TECH Thermal Engineering with an intake of 24. The Department has requisite number of faculty members, striving to incorporate excellence in theory, practice and research. Undergraduate studies in mechanical engineering at Vaagdevi college of engineering start with the innovative, integrated and well designed curriculum structure which gives students a solid foundation in core disciplines like mechanics, manufacturing, and thermal systems, together with essential areas of mathematics and physical sciences. Throughout the curriculum, design courses, laboratory courses, and project courses allow students to acquire a taste for the complex task of designing, analyzing, and building a device.
Experienced and dedicated faculty more than 10% of them is holding Doctorates. Diversified specializations, and experienced supporting staff. Faculty members published significant number of research papers in national and international journals, conferences. Conducted Workshops and FDP’s in advanced mechanical engineering concepts. Equipped with wide range of CAD/CAM software like CATIA, CREO, ANSYS, AUTOCAD, FLEXSIM etc. to cater to the UG/PG programmes for design, modeling and analysis of engineering products and research projects. Having a digital library to support faculty and students as a support for projects and research by providing access to E-Journals, E-Books, text books and project reports. Facilitated to manufacture complex parts with CNC Lathes and CNC Milling machine apart from machine shop and workshop to carry out student and faculty research projects. Conducts training & Certification Courses in order to impart Skill development and enhance employability.
Department Placement Profile
Our department always focuses towards placements with the aim of nurturing strong and continuous partnership between the industries and Institution. It creates and maintains relations with industries for effective exchange of knowledge between the Institution and the industries. This office is entrusted with the duty of interacting with the industries to increase the employment opportunities of the students and to increase their “real world” awareness. Practical training and placements of the all students are coordinated by a team of placement members. Its major functions of the office are:
Facilitate the participation of industry representatives in the academic process by way of arranging industrial lectures
Foster Institution – industry exchange programs including student internships
Coordinating placement related activities
Coordinate training activities for the students (both soft skills and technical skills)
Facilitate the filing of patents origin of original research carried out by faculties
Formal licensing to the industry of Institution – generated patents and technologies
Arranging the use of Institution facilities by the industry
Offering information, advice, guidance and job-seeking support for students are considered as the important activities of this team. Career Advisers are available to discuss ideas and plans and students are encouraged to attend the wide range of talks, information fairs and recruitment events offered.
Office of Corporate Relations, along with the concerned Departments and Centers of the Institution, gets actively involved in the following activities:

Engineering education is typically accompanied by additional post graduate examinations and supervised training as the requirements for a professional engineering license. The length of education, and training to qualify as a basic professional engineer is typical 2–5 years with 6–9 years for an engineer that takes responsibility for major projects.

HEINRICH BOLL SCHOLARSHIPS IN GERMANY FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS -
The scholarship is offered to international students who study in any state recognized University or institute in Germany.
HEINRICH FOUNDATION -
Number of scholarships: 950 (for both Germans and international students). 5/6th of the scholarships are for undergraduate and postgraduate students and 1/6th are for PhD students.
Scholarship Value: 750 DOLLARS per month for Masters students and 1000 DOLLARS per month for PhD students
GHENT SCHOLARSHIPS IN BELGIUM FOR DEVELOPING COUNTRIES -
The scholarships are awarded for students who study in Ghent University.

FACULTY FOR THE FUTURE DOCTORAL AND POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE

B. Tech Mechanical Engineering
The department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2009. The department offers B.Tech program in Mechanical Engineering. At present the department intake capacity is 180 students per year in the B.Tech level. The department has competent and committed faculty members drawn from industry, practicing professionals and academicians to enhance the delivery of academic programs.
The department has evolved a comprehensive student-centric learning approach, designed to add significant value to the learner's understanding in an integrated manner through workshops, lab sessions, assignments, training, seminars, projects and independent study. The hands-on training offered our CAD/CAM training in latest design software brings in a formal method of familiarizing with the industrial practices helps the students to apply their class room knowledge to live industrial situations.
M. Tech Thermal Engineering
This programme is designed to enable the students to develop expertise in both theory and design of Thermal Systems, Energy Systems and Energy Management. The students also learn to simulate various fluid, thermal and energy systems using different computational tools. They also do experiments to test various thermal and energy systems.
This programme offers many career options for the youngsters in both public and private sector involved in production of energy, design and production of thermal systems and energy systems. They will also get opportunities to join various Research and Development organizations. This prog
ramme also includes courses on Micro Flows and Micro/Nano Heat Transfer which are of great importance in electronic equipment design industry.
India is energy starved country and per capita consumption of energy in India is one of the lowest in the world. India faces a formidable challenge in providing adequate and efficient energy supplies to users at a reasonable cost. With an average annual growth rate of 8-9 percent, it will be a great challenge to meet the energy demand, and producing it efficiently without polluting the environment.
